Everything is Coming Up Roses at the Lace and Ivy Cottage

I love Thursdays. Not only is it nearing the end of a busy week, but its time for Tablescape Thursday hosted by Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch and Thrifty Thursday hosted by Leigh @ Tales From Bloggeritaville. Today my table is set with our everyday dinnerware, just spiffed up a bit.

These vintage dishes were made in the 1940's and were a fabulous find at the ever trusty GW. I purchased a set of 15 dinner plates and 10 bread plates for a whopping $5.99! Then, a couple of months later while antiquing at a favorite antiques mall, I found even more dishes with cups, saucers, bowls, and a completer set for $28.00. How lucky is that?

I love vintage things, don't you? They have such character, history, and a story to tell. I can just imagine these dishes having been used by another family in the 1940's. Now in 2009, they're still being used, and probably even more appreciated, by me. In these days of wastefulness, where almost everything is disposable, it's nice to see things and use things that have survived for decades. I bet these dishes stayed with the same family before they were finally donated or sold at an estate sale. I almost feel like I'm carrying on a tradition.

Remember that amazing home and garden tour I went to last weekend? You can read about it here. Well, I promised you that I'd share with you my souvenir. It's this vintage pink, floral tablecloth. I just loved the design and it goes so well with my dishes.

Not many things are made in the USA anymore.

This soup tureen was purchased at a yard sale for 50 cents.

I wonder how many times this bowl served mashed potatoes over the years.

I love the shape of this covered dish. It's hard to see in the picture, but it's not round, but square with rounded corners.

Thanks for dropping by. I love hearing from you, so please take a moment to say hello!

Till next time,

Hi Lorna,
What a great set of vintage dinnerware. I also collect vintage linens, they just seem to carry nostalgia with them. The table cloth does go well with your dishes.
Thanks for sharing!

This is such a beautiful table! Isn't vintage the best? And knowing that each piece has a rich history just makes it that much more special.

I just added my first tablescape Thursday! I cheated a bit by using photos I took from a recent flower show but next time I will add my own!

Warmly,
Sue

I couldn't agree more with you about antique dishes. In this disposable society, it is nice to have something permanent & with a history. Your table setting is GORGEOUS! I'm normally not a flower gal, but I would have adored to be at that table.

Oh my goodness, my mother HAD those dishes! I have no idea what happened to them, but I suspect that with 4 kids, most of them didn't survive and she finally gave up on them and gave them away. :-)

So fun to see them again ... and how amazing that you got a complete set by finding them in different locales. How lucky!
Great table!

Oh yes, I love vintage and antique things! I guess maybe because my mother loved them, they just make me feel comfortable and "at home." Your dishes and tablecloth are beautiful!!!

The floral tablecloth is so pretty - but I'm really drawn to the lace underneath! Everytime I see a lace tablecloth, I think of my great-grandmother, who used to crochet beautiful lace tablecloths! Great-looking table. Your dishes are lovely!

I love your rose dishes.

I am like you and often wonder about my dishes previous lives. I like to think that the former owners would be very happy to see the loving care I give their treasures.
What a great find with the tablecloth. It is a nice match. I bet you were delighted to find it!
