Guess where I've been the last couple of days. I've been away from my computer, and when I got back I was tagged, not once, but twice! So I'll be multitasking this post as I play catch up with my blog. First, I'm joining Christine at Christine's Home and Travel Adventures for Sightseeing Saturday as I take you on a short road trip to the beach.
For the last few weeks, it felt like summer had come early with temperatures in the 90's. But last Wednesday, on the way to Oceanside, the weather became uncharacteristically unpredictable for Southern California.
The morning started with thunder and lightening along with short periods of drizzle. This continued until the afternoon, and while on the freeway heading towards San Diego, you could see flashes of lightening striking on either side of the freeway. It was quite a show. It wasn't cold outside, but humid. Then all of a sudden, it started to hail! Hail? In June? In Southern California? I thought my windshield would crack as it took a beating on the highway, so I veered to the slow lane and proceeded at 40 mph. It didn't last long, so I didn't get any pictures, but my son did snap some shots along the way.
Doesn't look like beach weather, does it?
Again, a little bit of drizzle on a country road.
Just a short hour later, we arrived at Camp Pendleton. Though a little overcast, the weather was beautiful.
My friend is married to a US Marine, and they were able to sponsor us to use the beach cottages on the military base. Ours is the one with the tent, and as you can see, just steps from the beach.
We were located near a jetty, so the water was calm and warm. Perfect for my little ones.
My camera could not do justice to the sunset.
At last, some R&R and time to finally sit and open up a magazine. AHHH...
But Blogland was busy at work while I was at play. I was tagged twice! First, I was "8 tagged" by Christine @ Christine's Home and Travel Adventures, and photo tagged by Barb @ Grits and Glamour. Thanks Gals for thinking of me!

Hi Lorna, I am glad you and the kids were able to get away. But isn't the lightning scary at the beach? I hope it was short lived. Thanks for joining us for Sightseeing Sat. California is a very nice state and there is a lot of beautiful places to see there. It was also nice to know more about you....Christine
Awwwww - - - thanks for thinking of me with your tagging games!
I just DID both of these, well the 8 things I did was 7, but close enough. So, I'm not going to repost them, but it always feels like an honor to see your own name on someone else's blog, and for that I thank you very kindly!!!
Hey Lorna,
Thanks for thinking of me... I did both of these tags on my blog. :) I heard about all of the crazy weather you guys have been having! My sister sent me a picture of the hail! Unbelievable!
Hope you are having a sunny weekend! ;)
Melissa
Thanks for visiting today. Your beach photos look very relaxing - just what I need!
Lisa
I'm doing the tags tomorrow. I got tagged the photo one by Christine as well. LOL
I'll have it with my Sunday Favorites post. The ladies in your family are beautiful!
Hi again Lorna! Thanks for your kind words. You definitely need to take a pilgrimage to Lourdes. It's breathtaking. Paris is gorgeous but Lourdes is different, it's more of a natural setting, mountains, rocks, nature, etc. but best of all is the feeling that you get when you see the grotto and the procession with people holding candles and pushing their loved ones in stretchers and wheelchairs within the procession. It is giving me goose bumps again....Christine
Oh dear..I commented and then lost it..so..what I said is "Thank you so much for your sweet visit to my blog. I so hope you return soon. Also thank you for your sweet comment. Yes, that house does look huanted to me. More pictures of it in August when I return." Have a wonderful weekend!
~smiles~

P.S. NOW I remember what I wrote! I said....I was married to a Marine for 43 years and while he was in the Marine Corp for those 20 years, we used to take our children to San Onofre' at Camp Pendleton. I don't recall if that is how it is spelled or not. They used to rent mobil homes/large trailers..but perhaps they have changed to cottages. I loved it there. There used to be a little grocery store that you could buy supplies at. We used to get all of our camping gear at special services aboard the base! Brings back old, warm memories of days gone by. I live aboard the station many, many years ago in Wire Mountain housing.
that was some 50 years ago. I need to go travel that highway again before I die...just to look and remember..
Hugs.
Mona
The weather was so icky this past week huh!? I had just gotten in my car when that hail storm started and I was like ahhhh! LOL, and then I heard thunder and people started running and I was like ahhhhh again and started driving haha. What a nice beach house you guys stayed at :) Being tagged is always fun LOL. I haven't lived in 8 places either! LOL. Unless you count my dads...You know the whole every other weekend divorced kid getting shuttled around kind of thing LOL. We should visit all the tea rooms in America together! Haha! I will have fun doing this tag :)
All the best,
Allison
