Metamorphosis Monday

Those of you who've peeked at my blog know how much I love a bargain. But on rare occassions, I come across some things that are even better. Better than a bargain, you ask? Well yes, if it's FREE of course! A friend of mine was given this piece of furniture handmade by her neighbor's husband. I guess after they tired of it, they gave it to her. But my friend found no use for it in her home, so she passed it along to me. I'm past the rustic, farmhouse look, so it didn't suit me in its original state, but I knew that a little paint would do wonders for it.

I asked my son to sand it down for me and take some before pictures. As much as I enjoy to paint, I hate to sand. You know that feeling some people get when you run your fingernails down a chalkboard? Well, that's what sanding does to me. So priming and painting is where I come in.

I knew exactly where I would put it - out in my sunroom opposite a patio table and chairs we dine on during the summer. I thought it would work nicely for displaying some chotskis and also as a little dessert sevice. Some white paint, leftover from another project, gave it a whole new look. Doesn't it look so cottagey now?

Make sure to visit our lovely hostesses, Susan @

Till next time,

What a beautiful piece of furniture! It was truly meant to be white. Even with all the furniture I have painted, I still shake my head in amazement over how paint can so drastically change the way something looks. :)

Hi, and thanks for visiting my blog! The piece of furniture is absolutely gorgeous!! I love it white with all of your pretty things!
Have you tried liquid sander? I just bought some. I've read that it takes the place of sanding which I hate too. Worth a try!?

Love what you did with this piece. I would've done exactly the same thing. White just accentuates all of the qualities of the piece, don't you think? I was given an old secretary that belonged to my grandmother. It was a dark wood. I painted it white to the gasping and dismay of many, but I didn't care because I knew it'd look perfect, and it did! Unfortunately, before moving to Alabama for 3 years, I didn't want to sell it and gave it my older sister. I miss that piece! Anyway, cheers on yours!
