Foodie Friday and a Taste of the Sea

It's Foodie Friday once again, hosted by our gracious host Designs by Gollum. Make sure to pay her a visit to see more scrumptious recipes. In keeping with the beachy theme this week at the Lace and Ivy Cottage, I have a simple, delicious recipe for you seafood lovers.

Have you ever had ceviche? Living in Southern California, seafood is common and readily available, but this recipe calls for ingredients that can be found at any grocery store.

Ceviche is traditionally made with raw fish or shrimps "cooked" in the acidity of lemon juice. No raw fish here, just imitation crab meat and salad shrimp available at your grocers freezer or meat section.

Here's a photo of the ingredients.

After a little chopping, slicing, and dicing, and you end up with this.

I served it alongside some store bought tostada shells. You can serve this as a light, summer main course or as an appetizer or first course with some good quality tortilla chips.

Do you recognize the clam shell. You can see it in my tablescape here for some thrifty tablescaping ideas.

Crab and Shrimp Ceviche

1 pound frozen salad shrimp, defrosted
1 pound imitation crab meat, roughly chopped
1 tomato, seeded and diced
1/2 red onion finely diced
1/2 seedless or seeded cucumber finely diced
1 firm mango, shredded
1 bunch cilantro chopped
The juice of 5 limes (preferable) or 3 lemons

Mix all ingredients together and chill.

Serve cold

Thanks for stopping by and as always, I love hearing from you!

Till next time,

I've never had ceviche before but I've heard good things about it lol. I think Paula Dean made ceviche in shot glasses once! LOL. It looks goof in the clam shell.

All the best,
Allison

Hey by the way about the antique stores in San Diego. You have to go here http://www.yelp.com/biz/newport-avenue-antique-center-san-diego. It's awesome there are a bunch of antique stores. My favorite one is called Vignettes! But check them all out I find great things in all of them. Also if you go on a Wednesday at 3:30 they have a nifty street fair with all kinds of yummy food, baked goods, flowers, art, crafts lol! They even have lama rides and a bouncy house haha.

All the best,
Allison

This looks so good! I'll definitely try it. I tried to make ceviche once with raw shrimp, but it never did look "cooked" enough to me, I just threw it out.

I had missed your tablescape from yesterday. Wow, I love it! And I love that huge table too! I've got a couple set of beachy dishes, and I need to find a big clamshell like that as a serving dish.
