Fab Finds

It seems that my last few jaunts to the thrift shops have left me either empty handed or at least with nothing really worth mentioning - until now! Take a looky here, ladies. I just got this entire silver coffee and tea serving set with a footed tray for a mere $14.99!

Sure, it's dusty and tarnished, but can't you see the diamond in the rough?

The handle to the teapot was missing, but I found it inside the teapot. My hubby knows a place that will solder it back on for just a couple of bucks.

Just a little elbow grease and tarnish remover and Ta-Da! Better than new. I wouldn't be this excited if I got it new.

Can you believe it, it doesn't end there. Here's a beautiful blue and white ironstone bowl that I got for 99 cents! I'll be using this to serve fresh strawberries.

Now, let's throw in these never-been-used cloth napkins at 5 for a dollar.

But wait, can it be? More deals? Why yes, 5 of these beauties for 50 cents a piece. Can't you just picture a blue and white tablescape happening here? Stay tuned for more Fab Finds at the Lace and Ivy Cottage!

Have Tea With Me

Good day everyone! I want to give a heartfelt thank you to Theresa @ Take A Sentimental Journey for mentioning me on her blog and sending her friends over my way to leave comments on my first post. I can't express my gratitude for all your kind words and encouragement! When I first saw that I had 11 comments, I thought my husband and kids left comments for me. After all, who else would have read my blog? What a surprise that my blog had reached people outside my kitchen counter!I wish I could give each one of you a great, big hug. I truly feel like I've made new friends.

I thought I'd share with you some pictures of a "Pretty in Pink" baby shower tea I was honored to host for a friend who had her first daughter after 6 boys in a row! It was a family affair with my husband polishing all the silver, my younger ones setting the tables, me making and garnishing the tea sandwiches, sweets, and savories, and my older kids plating and serving. Now that's teamwork!
Here's the yummy dessert table.
My friend did a nice job arranging the fresh fruit, don't you think?
The picture frame held the tea menu: Cornucopia Salad, Curry Chicken on Croissant, Watercress & Egg Salad Tea Sandwiches, Cucumber & Mint Tea Sandwiches, Mini Quiche, Assorted Savory Puff Pastries, Scone with Lemon Curd and Devonshire Cream, Assorted Pastries, Fresh Fruit, and 8 types of teas. Is your mouth watering yet?
Here is the beverage table with strawberry lemonade.

This is one of the tables set in the parlor across from the dining room.
This is the main table in the dining room.

I felt privileged to serve and pamper these lovely, hard working moms for the afternoon. Many of them commented at how the felt like "ladies" again. Mission accomplished!

Love,
Lorna

One, Two, Three, Go!

Do you remember how it was when you first learned to ride a bike? You could imagine yourself perfectly balanced on two wheels, brimming with confidence. You swing your leg over the bike... that hard, skinny seat between your legs... you suddenly feel awkward and uncomfortable... that confidence begins to wane. One foot on the peddle - PUSH! Your other foot lands on the ground before your tire makes even one revolution. You repeat the process, inching your way down the street, when finally you keep both feet on the peddles, your handle bars jerking left and right. You gain momentum. One, two, three revolutions... you're doing it! You're riding! The wind blows through your hair, the freedom, the exhilaration!

Such is my experience with blogging. I am not only a newbie, but up until a few weeks ago, I didn't even know what a blog was. But such is life. Full of discoveries, opportunities, and challenges. Today I am on my bike (or blog) for the first time. I can imagine myself writing freely, uploading pictures effortlessly, creating beautiful designs, and maneuvering around blogland with comfort, ease, and confidence! But in reality I'm still on training wheels. I'm clumsy and awkward and can't find my way around. It's trial and error. But I'm on my bike, two feet still on the ground, and ready for the challenge. So bear with me , please. I have a lot to learn, but I'm so excited to be a part of the blogging world. I have so much to share, and it promises to be a great adventure. Come along with me for the ride!
